MIXED RESULTS FOR BALLARD’S AT ROUND’S 5 & 6 OF AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL OFF ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Round’s 5 and 6 of the Australian National Off Road Championships will be remembered as the event that helped break the drought in western NSW and Victoria. Conditions at the Wodonga event were extremely wet, a complete turn around from the choking dust at the previous rounds at Gilgandra in NSW. This championship is proving to be a great test for the riders with such varied conditions.

Alison Parker was the standout performer for the Ballard’s team at this event. She once again made a clean sweep of the Woman’s class to remain undefeated for the championship. Melissa McKay was also riding brilliant in the tough conditions and backed up her teammate with a pair of second places.

Damian Smith was back on deck after recovering from a broken wrist. He rode a little conservatively to finish 2nd in class both days behind Honda’s Ben Grabham. Fellow E1 class riders Jason Cater and Morgan Fitzgerald resumed their own battle to finish with class results of 5th and 4th for Cater and 6th and 5th for Fitzgerald.

Queenslander Ryan Smart made the swap from the E2 class to the E1 class a successful one by giving teammate Smith a hurry up, pushing him on both days for a pair of thirds.

Geoff Ballard missed the first day as he was in transit, returning from a European business trip. He flew straight from Europe to Wodonga, arriving on Saturday afternoon to compete on Sunday where he finished 2nd in class with a good case of jet lag.

WR450F rider Jarrod Bewley found the wet conditions tough, finishing 9th on day 1 and 10th on day 2 in the E2 class.

Next event for the Ballard’s Yamaha Motorex Racing Team is rounds 8 and 9 of the NSW Off Road Championships at Bathurst on July 3rd and 4th.
