Changes at the
Pointy end for Amcross Round 2
Dean Smith, Andrew Donnelly and Luke
Donnelly headed to Junee on the Weekend
for Round 2 of the NSW Amcross
series. The track was expected to be fairly dry due
to the lack of rain in the Riverina,
but the club did a great job the week leading up to
the event, ensuring the dust was
kept to a minimum.
Dean Smith
Riding on day 2 of the event meant
that Dean had to contend with the ruts left behind
by the juniors and parents on the
Saturday 28th. Dean scored
the hole shot in the first
two races, keeping his position up
front for the first lap. Dean let two riders past in
lap 2 but still kept up the pace.
Fatigue set in during the last lap and riders took
advantage of Dean s fitness level
before the finish line. In the final race, Dean was
fourth into the first corner and
charging hard. A slight misjudgement in a rutted out
corner on the second lap sent Dean
crashing to the ground. Dean abseiled out of rut
and remounted. By this time Dean was
near last place and not happy. Andrew said it
was great watching Smithy from the
sideline putting in his best two laps of the whole
day to finish somewhere around 11th. End of the day Dean finished with
a 5th, 5th,
11th?
Andrew Donnelly
Andrew fronted up to Junee with a
point to prove after what he felt was a
disappointing performance at Picton.
The unfortunate thing for Andrew was that he
took a mate (Puss McCarthy) with him
that had never raced the Amcross series
before. As the gate dropped, Puss
was the first one out of the gate with Andrew in
tow. The pair had their own little
game of cat and mouse out front leaving the rest of
the pack in their wake. By the end
of the race, Andrew came in 2nd behind Puss
whilst the rest of the pack were a
good three corners back!! The second race was a
repeat of the first with the boys
from Bega showing the rest of the parents how it is
done. Puss again led AD over the
line. In race number three Andrew scored the holeshot
in front of Puss and decided that
was where he was going to stay. Puss had other
ideas taking AD on the outside
through turn one yelling abuse the whole way.
Andrew kept Puss honest but couldn t
make the pass. Puss & AD once again went
one two over the line, white washing
the field. I suggested that he should leave
Puss at home next time. Andrew
attributed his performance to more time and the new
Michelin rear tyre he fitted the
week before that really hooked up well on the Junee
track. Final result 2nd, 2nd, 2nd :- 2nd overall.
Luke Donnelly
Luke s first start wasn t the best
after giving the clutch a little bit too much of a hard
time causing the bike to roll into
the start gate. When the gate dropped, Luke stayed
behind. By the time Luke got
untangled, he was in dead last place. Luke rode well in
a field of approximately 25 riders
to work back up to 15th place. Luke s second start
was unfortunately the same as the
first with Luke s clutch habits causing him grief in
the gate. Daddy wasn t happy! Luke
again left the start in dead last, this time
working up to 14th place. Luke got his act together in
the last race and got a decent
start. Luke stayed with the leading
bunch, crossing the in 11th place. You could have
thrown a blanket over 4th to 11th. Final result 15th, 14th, 11th
This
weekend, the team are racing on home turf, with a Supertrack event being run at
Tantawangalo.
